Why consider employing live musicians for wedding reception music rather than using recorded tracks?

Well, let’s face it….your excitement level for your own wedding scores a 10. Dare I suggest, ‘though that some people may be coming out of a sense of duty. If you’re of a certain age, some of your friends may be suffering from ‘wedding fatigue’. This means they’re finding all their circle of friends are getting married.  The expense of hen-dos, travel, gifts and clothes could become a real worry to them. They’ll smile sweetly at you and say all the right things but their hearts will be worrying about finances and their inner voices will be screaming ‘not another’!

Then there will be the elderly from the families. A great aunt of the bride’s mother could well not even know the family of the bride’s father.  The same could be happening with the groom’s family.

In short, seating plans for sit down meals can be a complete headache.  Whatever you do it will be wrong with some, if not many of your guests.

The difference made by live musicians

But this article isn’t really about tackling that side of things. It’s simply about pointing out that some people will find conversation tricky with those who they don’t know.

When you can provide a warm atmosphere with live musicians for wedding receptions, it will give everyone something to listen to and watch if they find themselves isolated for a while.

Let’s face it, most of us are surrounded by music from the moment that we wake until we go to sleep. Just imagine yourself as that elderly aunt. You really want to see your lovely niece happily married but you feel nervous of all her smart friends. After you’ve replied to say that you’ll be there, you realise that you’ll hardly know anyone else at all and you’re filled with apprehension.

After the ceremony, you walk into the reception room and it appears that everyone else is very confident. They’re chatting away merrily which makes you feel even more isolated.  Then there are a couple of musicians playing gently in the corner. They smile at you and you return the smile and you make your way over. You sit there for a few minutes and the musicians have a chat between songs; then someone else comes to join you and you have a few words about the music. The conversation grows and you find that that person is feeling just as you do.  They’re not confident at all and you find a friend for life.

The music in a reception acts as a comfort blanket. The room is never quiet and silences are no longer uncomfortable if you have musicians gently playing.

The moral of this story is that music is as important at the reception as it is in the ceremony. Whilst you will be so tied up with all the excitement of the day, it will make a huge difference to many of your guests. It’s also so much better to have live musicians, rather than recorded music, playing through the system.

You need professional musicians at your reception who are happy to play ‘wallpaper’ music, rather than be the centre of attention in a usual concert situation. Well, I’m blowing my own trumpet here. No, that’s a figure of speech. I don’t play trumpet but, along with my husband Paul, I can supply all the background music to your taste on piano, guitar, bass and soprano sax. Talk with us and we’ll put together a perfect music set to complement your day.
